Welcome back, dedicated reader! Thanks for visiting.
The most contentious issue, the feed-in tariff, could become LAW! by the ratification of the Green Energy Act by Ontario Government. WOOHOO! Getting paid money if you produce more energy than you need and feed it back into the grid? What an Excellent Idea! stolen from the number one solar nation, Germany. Actually, Ontario is attempting to make it happen even faster with a higher rate of return than Germany offered when that country decided to go solar. Super sweet! I wonder what’s going to happen after this document gets ratified… People are going to become extremely interested in going solar because if they make more energy than they use, they’ll make some dough!! (Money is good.) The people who are trained in solar installation will get very busy very quickly. Installers will make money, solar home owners will make money, and Ontario will see an influx in everyone making money creating a real example of that amorphous “trickle down” economic idea which says that when people make more money, they’ll spend more money. In this particular case, the trickle won’t begin at the very top of the monitized mountain (like millionaire tax cuts where this trickle idea came from) it’ll happen right in the middle of society and everyone will benefit very quickly. Let the trickle metaphore change then to a soaked sponge being squeezed – aka- money everywhere! (I anticipate that waitresses in Ontario are going to be very happy when future solar families walk into restaurants…)
Even farther than that, Toronto (the not-as-cool-as-Montreal but otherwise cool because it’s huge and a Canadian city) just passed the most progressive municipal legislation in North America to date when Toronto City Council ratified the Eco-Roof Incentive Program for green and cool roofs that either support vegetation and/or solar energy. Money for a fresh veggie garden on your Toronto rooftop? How sweet is Canada!?!
My advice, people of Ontario, if you’re an electrician or general contractor, get on your solar training program immediately. Make sure your solar education is comprehensive, inclusive of the business side and has a verifiable method of post-education communication. Get trained in New Jersey with the Boots on the Roof solar trainers. They’ve been involved in solar design, instillation, business and sales for 20+ years (the Bay Area rules and is very green).
Hey Canada! I miss you!
