Tidal Power Waves coming through San Francisco!

September 7, 2009

Welcome back, dedicated reader! Thanks for visiting.

PG&E, the Golden Gate Company, and the City of San Francisco have all teamed up and signed an agreement to conduct a research into the possibility of tide-generated power in the San Francisco Bay! (I never imagined that would happen.) The study will evaluate numerous area including energy-generating potential of the bay and current and new technologies for transforming tidal motion into electricity. The studies will asses the costs, benefits and economic likelihood of such generation.  Most importantly, the study will see if there are any potential environmental impacts of this type of power.  Since the San Francisco Bay is so huge, it is an absolutely great location for tidal energy generation.  If the results of the search find a promise of tidal power, then the future looks very bright and can lead to a complete commercial product.  It will take some time, but in three to five years, there could be huge results.

This is a great idea that can be extremely effective.  Can you believe that France is the only country that is using this source of tidal energy? If it worked in France, why wouldn’t it work in the US? Another renewable energy source would be greatly appreciated in our country’s shift toward a sustainable future. So, why don’t we bring this remarkable idea into the United States and help the environment, along with the economy.
