Make it Right, a model for us all

December 17, 2009

Welcome, solar enthusiast.

Hurricane Katrina was arguably one of the worst hurricanes to hit the gulf coast, and in the process dealing an enormous amount of damage. One of the regions that was hit the hardest by the hurricane was the lower 9th ward of New Orleans. 2 years after the disaster the district looks almost identical, with very little being done by anyone except concerned neighbors to slowly fix the damage. Actor Brad Pitt toured the region and vowed to make it right, and he founded the Make it Right program to not only rebuild the neighborhoods but make them green and renewable and a model example for communities nationwide.

This project is rebuilding the region and reconnecting communities that were shattered by the storm. And at the same time these homes and communities are serving as a great testing ground for new green building practices and designs. These highly efficient and inexpensive homes are great models for how a green community can be made and how little is it to maintain it.

The Make it Right website is full of videos and content, and even products to let you show you support for the cause. make sure to check it out and give this great green project the attention and aid it deserves.
